Recommendations for Change
- # 112 |
197 Open Mule and/or Donkey Walk/Trot NASMA encourages open mule and/or donkey Walk/Trot competitions. Mules and donkeys may not be shown in the same class.
A. Mule is to be shown in western tack and attire. Legal bit requirements apply, although any age mule may be ridden in a legal snaffle bit or bosal with 2 hands.
B. Donkey is to be shown in western tack and attire. Donkeys may be ridden 1 or 2 handed with any legal bit. With equal performance, 1 hand will be placed over 2 handed. |

Justification and impact if rule is not changed |
Making the change will encourage entry level exhibitors who would be more comfortable in a walk/trot gait to participate in the shows. The same holds true for senior exhibitors. NASMA wants to attract the senior exhibitor and this change will increase in show entries and new memberships from both these groups. Also, it will fit the donkey that has graduated from training level and does not lope well.
Impact if the rule is not changed will exclude a group of exhibitors who will be an addition to the show and NASMA membership. |

Committee Comments |
| Take the “Open” designation off this class, adding it to the Western Division and available to all levels of competition. Submitter agreed to change. |
